Reviewers’ Guideline
Military Caring Sciences (MCS)
Peer reviewers are essential to maintaining the quality, relevance, and ethical standards of the Military Caring Sciences. We thank you for your time, expertise, and dedication to advancing scholarship in military caring and compassion-based healthcare practices.
1. Purpose of Peer Review
The peer review process helps:
  • Ensure the integrity and quality of the scholarship published.
  • Provide constructive feedback to authors.
  • Support editorial decisions through objective, expert evaluation.
MCS follows a double-blind peer review process to maintain fairness and confidentiality.

2. Reviewer Responsibilities
As a reviewer, you are expected to:
Evaluate the manuscript objectively, respectfully, and constructively.
Maintain confidentiality and not share or use manuscript content outside the review process.
Disclose any conflicts of interest and recuse yourself if needed.
Provide your review within the agreed-upon timeframe (2 weeks).

3. Evaluation Criteria
Please consider the following when reviewing a submission:

a. Relevance and Scope
Does the manuscript align with the journal’s focus on military caring sciences?
Is it of interest to professionals, educators, or researchers in military or veteran healthcare?

b. Originality and Contribution
Is the work novel and does it make a meaningful contribution to the field?
Does it offer new insights, theories, or evidence-based practices?

c. Methodological Rigor (for empirical studies)
  • Are the research questions clearly stated?
  • Are methods appropriate and ethical?
  • Are data analysis and interpretations sound?

d. Theoretical and Conceptual Clarity (for non-empirical papers)
  • Is the argument coherent and well-supported?
  • Does the manuscript advance or challenge existing theories or frameworks?

e. Organization and Clarity
  • Is the writing clear, concise, and logically structured?
  • Are tables, figures, and references properly used?

f. Ethical Compliance
  • Has the study received appropriate ethical approval (if applicable)?
  • Are any potential ethical concerns (e.g., vulnerable populations, consent) addressed?

4. Providing Feedback
Please offer constructive and specific comments:
  • Summarize the strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript.
  • Suggest ways the author can improve clarity, coherence, or impact.
  • Avoid personal or dismissive language; focus on the content, not the author.

Complete the reviewer form with:
  • Recommendation (Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, Reject)
  • Comments to the Editor (confidential)
  • Comments to the Author (for feedback and revision)

5. Confidentiality and Integrity
  • Do not share or cite the manuscript.
  • Do not use ideas or data from the manuscript in your own work.
  • Report any ethical concerns (e.g., plagiarism, data fabrication) to the editor.

6. Contact and Support
