The assemment of the abstracts quality in massage therapy articles published by nurses

Introduction: In recently years, many articles in massage therapy published by Iranian nurses. This study was conducted to evaluate the abstracts quality of articles about massage therapy, published in scientific journals during the years 2003 to 2012, by Iranian nurses.

Material and Methods: In this cross sectional study, all original massage therapy articles published in scientific journals that there was any Iranian nurse between authors, were evaluated. Quality in different sections of abstracts including, background, methods and materials, results, discussion, keywords and volume of abstracts were assessed. Data analysis was done by descriptive statistic methods

Results: Totally, 120 abstracts of original articles about massage therapy, published in scientific journals were evaluated. On the whole, quality of the abstracts were good in 29.6% of articles, in 40.8% it was relatively good and in 29.6% was weak. The weakest sections were material and methods (61.7%) and the best sections were key words (82.6%). Nursing PhD authors significantly improved the quality of the articles (P =0.001). The quality growth was significantly associated with time passing (P =0.001).

Discussion and Conclusion: The present study showed that the overall quality of the abstracts of massage therapy articles published in scientific journals, is not desirable. They have many mistakes. Hence, implementations for reducing mistakes in abstracts writing of articles would result in increasing application of the study results.
