Abstract:   (2199 Views)
Introduction: Addiction, as one of the present century’s health problems, has several underlying factors. Nurses in the clinical environment face many contradictory and ethical decisions that require ethical sensitivity.
Objective: The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of behavior simulation with the addicted person on the moral sensitivity of Iranians working in Bustan Psychiatric Hospital, Ahvaz, in 2020.
Materials and Methods: The present study is a randomized clinical trial. In this study, 50% of nurses were included by the convenience sampling method; Nurses were divided into two groups: experimental and control. According to the curriculumn, the experimental group was trained in two 2-hour sessions on two successive days. The previous questionnaire was completed immediately after the intervention and one month later. Demographic information form and MMSQ ethical sensitivity questionnaire were used to collect data. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.81 for evaluating the reliability. Data were analyzed through descriptive methods, t-test, analysis of variance with repeated measures, Fisher’s exact test and Chi-square (SPSS 21).
Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups regarding moral sensitivity before the intervention (P=0.78). However, it was significantly different after the intervention (P<0.001). Also, one month after the intervention, the moral sensitivity scores in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.001).
Discussion and Conclusion: The present study results show the positive impact of simulation training on nurses’ moral sensitivity in dealing with an addicted client. Therefore, executive and educational managers can improve the skills of nurses to maintain and promote the patients’ health by developing educational programs in a simulated manner in the coming years.
