Comparison of the Effect of Teaching Ethical Principles through Multimedia and[NF1] Virtual Methods on the Moral Sensitivity of Nurses in Selected Hospitals of Aja

Introduction: Nurses working in intensive care units (ICUs) frequently encounter ethical challenges and difficult situations; therefore, ethics education is essential to enhance their moral sensitivity.
Objective: This study aimed to compare the effects of ethics education delivered through multimedia and virtual methods on the moral sensitivity of nurses in selected Aja hospitals in Tehran during 2022–2023.
Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 50 ICU nurses from two selected Aja hospitals in Tehran, recruited through convenience sampling. Participants were randomly assigned into two groups: multimedia (n=25) and virtual education (n=25). The virtual group received five 50-minute online sessions, while the multimedia group received CD-based educational clips and videos prepared by the researcher. Moral sensitivity was measured using the Lutzen Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire.
Results: The mean ± SD of moral sensitivity before the intervention was 74.84±8.83 in the multimedia group and 78.48±10.45 in the virtual group. After the intervention, these values were 85.12±5.11 and 82.28±6.80, respectively. Independent t-test showed no statistically significant differences between groups before or after the intervention (P>0.05). However, paired t-test revealed a significant improvement in the multimedia group (P<0.0001), while no significant change was observed in the virtual group.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that multimedia education can effectively enhance nurses’ moral sensitivity. Multimedia-based learning appears to facilitate better cognitive and perceptual understanding, resulting in higher engagement and improved learning outcomes. Therefore, nursing managers are encouraged to adopt innovative educational strategies such as multimedia training to strengthen ethical competence among nurses. |
