Introduction: Oral-dental health is one of the most important parts of public health that has a significant effect on quality of life.
Objective: This study aimed to survey the oral health 5th grade female students in Tehran and its related factors.
Material and Methods: In this analytic- descriptive study, the oral health of 416 students in the academic year of 2016-2017 was assessed by systematic cluster sampling method. The data were collected by researcher-made questionnaires and their validity and reliability were confirmed. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 21.
Results: The mean of age of subjects was 10.88±0.62 years, only 55.3% of these students brush their teeth less than twice a day, 22.4% use dental floss at least once a day, and 23.1% check their teeth every six months. The main sources of oral health information in students were teachers and health educators. The mean and standard deviation of score from knowledge and performance were 41.21±22.30, and 53.33±19.6, respectively. Also, family income and parents’ education had a positive and significant correlation with the practice (P>0.01), but awareness has a significant correlation with just parents ‹education (P<0.05).
Discussion and Conclusion: Some of the studied students had the oral health knowledge and practice. The more parental educational level is, the more awareness and practice the students get. According to the survey, the richest information resources are teachers and health trainers. It seems that instructor-based educational interventions can be efficient.
