Abstract:   (95 Views)
Introduction: Nursing education encompasses both theoretical and practical dimensions. Bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical practice is a crucial aspect of the learning process, ensuring the effective application of acquired knowledge in real-world healthcare settings.
Objective: This study aims to identify the causes and influential factors contributing to the gap between theory and practice in nursing education.
Materials and Methods: A narrative review was conducted through a comprehensive search of Persian databases (SID, Research.Idml, Magiran) and international databases (ScienceDirect, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science), along with a web search using Google Scholar. The search included the Persian keywords "Professional Practice Gaps, Clinical Education, Nursing Education, and Theoretical Education" and their English equivalents, covering the period from 2015 to 2023. Initially, 523 articles were identified, of which 17 met the inclusion criteria and were fully reviewed.
Results: factors contributing to the gap between theory and practice in nursing education have been categorized into six areas (nursing educators, students and inadequacies in the educational system, clinical areas, nursing faculty and educational strategies, clinical nurses, and employment laws).
Conclusion: Enhancing the academic qualifications of instructors, revising and updating educational curricula to align with societal healthcare needs, fostering interactive collaboration between clinical nurses and academic institutions, improving professional skills, boosting nurses' self-confidence, and employing instructors with clinical experience are key strategies that may facilitate a stronger integration of theoretical learning with clinical practice in nursing education.
Keywords: Clinical Education, Nursing Education and Theoretical Education, Professional Practice Gaps
